Speaker ![]() 203-578-7702 Dr. Barbosa is a consultant to a pharmaceutical company focused on developing immunology and inflammation therapies that target diseases such as lupus, psoriasis, arthritis, and inflammatory bowel diseases including Crohn's disease among others of a confidential nature. His experience in drug discovery and development has offered him opportunities to work across many disease fields. Much of this work has produced patented molecules covering numerous diseases. His efforts in the field of immunology and inflammation were directed at diseases such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease) and transplant rejection. Dr. Barbosa's work with cancer involved molecules with the potential to treat lung, ovarian, breast, neck and head cancer, and various sarcomas. He has also researched and studied prostate cancer. Working closely with cardiovascular disease scientists, Dr. Barbosa has an understanding of atherosclerosis and arteriosclerosis, as well as the effect of cholesterol in the body. Dr. Barbosa's knows how important it is to understand how diseases work in the body and how medicines work to treat the disease. He believes that people need to know the facts about the positive attributes and negative side effects of a drug and whether the medicine is having any effect at all. His drug discovery skill has been refined in research by balancing how well a drug works with other properties such as toxicity and potential for side effects. The presentations designed by Dr. Barbosa use his extensive knowledge and years of expertise to educate people, in very simple terms, how to effectively communicate with their physicians about their concerns. He has past a decade of experience carrying out research at various pharmaceutical companies in the fields of immunology & inflammation, cancer and cardiovascular disease.
